Dr Ameen graduated with first class honours from The University of Witwatersrand Medical School in 1994. He subsequently completed his Internship at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 1995 and then, until the year 2000 served his General Medicine Training.

In 2001, Ozayr was appointed as Senior Registrar to The Department of Neurology at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. He completed his Neurology Training and was successful in obtaining his Fellowship of the College of Neurologists of South Africa in May 2002.

Dr Ameen was subsequently appointed as Consultant Neurologist in the Department of Neurology at Groote Schuur Hospital, Senior Lecturer in Behavioural Neurology in the Department of Psychology at The University of Cape Town and is also in private practice at The Gatesville Hospital where he is the lead neurologist.

Dr Ameen is a member of Health Professions Council of South Africa, Neurology Association of South Africa and a variety of charitable organisations.
